The serious blogger's situation is quite different from the casual blogger's. The serious blogger has a blog that he or she considers to be a job -- a job that may be competing with other important elements of life such as a primary job, a family, a social life and adequate rest. The serious blogger is committed (almost to the point of an obsession) to maintaining his or her blog and feels it is an essential element of daily life. The serious blogger feels dejected if any post sits on the blog for twenty-four hours or so without generating a comment or if the blog's "hit counter" does not register a certain number of visitors every day. That kind of commitment to blogging may take a big hunk of time out of the day and can easily create some serious conflicts between blogging and the rest of life -- to avoid this, the serious blogger needs to be organized and efficient.

Time management for the serious blogger! Anyone who feels that the day is too short needs to understand and implement the basic principle of time management: setting priorities. Some things are obviously more important than other things but some important things may be left undone unless you are controlling your schedule and not having random events control you. You need to set priorities and live by them.

Make a priority list! To begin setting priorities, make a list of everything you need to get done -- everything including things you've committed to doing, things you want to do, things you know you should do and things that you really don't want to do but are on your mind. Be honest and put everything on the list -- take a couple hours or more to put it together if you need that much time, it will be time well spent because you are about to get organized.

Important: You will be using and modifying this list every day so create the list using some program that will allow you to move list items around, add items, remove items and save the list. Categorize! Now carefully consider each item on the list and put each one into one of the following five categories.

Now you have a decent priority list. Start every day with this list and every time you become aware of a new task add it in a proper place to the proper category. As the "must do" items are accomplished and moved off the list, some of the nice-to-do items may be moved up, but only if their priorities can honestly be changed.

Too many must-do things! If the list of items in the two "Must get it done . . . " categories is overwhelming, reconsider each item's importance and re-prioritize if you can, if not select the items that you really don't have to do yourself, things like fix-it projects, business phone calls, business letters, editing and proofreading jobs, etc. -- some of these things may be able to be done just as well by someone else. Find a friend, family member, co-worker or a freelancer to do it for you.

Web spam pages use various techniques to achieve higher-than-deserved rankings in a search engine's results. While human experts can identify spam, it is too expensive to manually evaluate a large number of pages. Instead, we propose techniques to semi-automatically separate reputable, good pages from spam. We first select a small set of seed pages to be evaluated by an expert. Once we manually identify the reputable seed pages, we use the link structure of the web to discover other pages that are likely to be good. In this paper we discuss possible ways to implement the seed selection and the discovery of good pages. We present results of experiments run on the World Wide Web indexed by AltaVista and evaluate the performance of our techniques. Our results show that we can effectively filter out spam from a significant fraction of the web, based on a good seed set of less than 200 sites.

I will try to explain in layman's terms what this is all about.

First of all you will need to understand about hubs and authority sites in the eyes of Google. Sites and pages are clustered by Phrase and topic as part of the Google web mapping. Within these clusters Google will identify its current hubs and authorities. Hubs being sites that link out to many of the sites within that cluster, and authorities are the sites within that cluster that receive more links to it than the others.

Google will Have already manually have rated these sites with regard their content, the sites they link to and their trustworthiness.

A prime example would be the BBC. They have a strict set of guidelines that editors must adhere to with regard linking to sites on the web. They also have strict guidelines set in place and overseen by government appointed bodies. These seed sites will be given a trust factor which can then be carried (or voted) to other sites, (like page rank) through their links.

Most niche trusted sites will carry links to similar content, or links to links on similar content. E.G. Reuters might run a news line, which is picked up by the BBC who rewrite and cite the original Reuters report. CNN might cite the BBC version which is more developed. ALL these sites are interlinking, and all are trusted sites. They might all also link to a website that originally carried the white paper/ allegation/ content.

So let's put it into practice.

I release a niche altruistic website that is well received. The news gets picked up by the BBC who link to it. Various other news sites pick up on it and also point links to my niche site. In time other charity and educational sites link to me, as well as church sites etc. Many of these sites will be either seed trusted sites or linked to by seed sites. The closer the site which links to me is to the seed site, the more TrustRank my altruism site will get, the further away the less.. By default, if my TrustRank hits a level (caused by numerous site that have inherited TrustRank from votes), I might well become a trusted hub myself, making links from my site very valuable (in terms of TrustRank not monetary, although this will also be the case, but no one will know the TrustRank to know the value)

If you want to see a crude version of trustrank in action then look at the voting system on a forum.

If someone with a red (negative) reputation votes for you (good or bad), it doesn't affect your reputation, because in the eyes of the system they are not trusted because others who ARE trusted have said so. While a vote (good or bad) from someone with many squares of reputation can lift you up on high, or condemn you to the fiery furnace, while votes from those with one or two squares of reputation will count, but not for much. This is a simplified form of TrustRank.

It is my belief that TrustRank will compound so that the sum of the whole will be greater than the parts. so if a site got links from a seed site it would be worth x, but a site with links from two seed sites could be x +y + compounded trust value.

Below is a graphical representation of how it might work, but I have for simplicity not added the compounding value, and have used round numbers. Google PageRank uses a whole number of 1 as a base for each page, and a 'voting value' of .85 of the PageRank value. (This being the result of the .15 dampening factor applied to all pages when determining the value of outbound links from a page).

That is my take on TrustRank. So the old adage of build quality content that people will want to link to, means more than ever now.

One last thing, in life there is balance, for every shard of light there is dark, for every white Stetson, there is a black one. If some sites ARE trusted, either by seed or approval of seed, then some will NOT be. It is therefore possible, that links from un-trusted (due to being TrustRank unknown) sites, might not get any link benefit to pass on? Just a theory.

I have been involved in many mlm and direct sales companies over the span of my 9 year career. It has given me vast insight into the industry. Also, I have learned more about myself and the secret key ingredients to success that so few people learn and even fewer apply.

My experiences have been my greatest teacher though all were preceded by learning from someone already successful at what I currently wanted to do. I hate the idea of "making my own mistakes" when I could just as easily learn from someone else's. Even still, there have been many spectacular failures along with the successes.

Sometimes you will be ready to receive success, other times you won't. There may still be a lesson you must learn to be worthy of the success you seek.

     The Laundry List of Companies in my past:
     -Equinox International (health supplies)
     -Amway (roped into a meeting at Denny's only)
     -Excel Communications (phone services)
     -Quest International (financial training)
     -EXE Series (internet marketing explained)
     -Networth USA (real estate training)
     -Direct Matches (business networking)

It may seem like I jump from company to company and in hindsight I did. Also, my powers of perception were weak enough to make me susceptible to some scams (12 daily pro being the most glaring). But I regret none of it because you have to be open or nothing happens in your life.

So, over the 9 years of blood, sweat and tears what have I learned you ask? Too many things to tell you in this short article but I will give you the keys so you can avoid my mistakes.

1. Do some due diligence. Don't beat a dead horse so you never have to make a decision. But search "company name scam" or "company name reviews" in your favorite engine. If 1 or 2 bad things or even a few hundred no big deal. If millions, watch out. Also, talk to others already in the company to get there take.

Immediately read the policies and procedures of those companies you are interested in. You want to see if there are any red flags (ongoing recruiting, minimum 4 sales per month, etc.) that can allow the company to steal the check you've built. Then make the best decision for you based on the info you have.

Once you decide (quickly but not without relevant info) stand fast to it, resolve never to quit, and GET INTO ACTION.

2. Find a mentor. Go as high up your upline as you need to in locating someone who is achieving the success you desire. This has been my largest realization though it seems obvious. Then make sure to follow AND apply their advice.

3. Find a mastermind group. This can be as easy as getting on your company or team's training calls. Every good company should provide written, audio, and video training. Or find a couple of people above your level of achievement to exchange ideas with. In person is best, but teleconference will do. Put the ideas into action immediately.

4. Map out where you want to be in 6 months and 1 year from today. As humans our brains are goal-seeking units. Give yourself a target to aim for so you'll at least know you hit or missed and what to do from there. Be specific with money goals, size of your team, number of leaders you will develop, and skills you will learn.

5. Break down the global list into small, consistent action steps you will take everyday. This will keep you focused (my past nemesis to success) and allow you to know and see how you are going to accomplish them. Huge goals are beyond our understanding and never get done. Many small, simple steps added up allow us to reach those big goals.

6. Have a basic understanding of your compensation plan. You don't have to know every detail but enough to know what pays you. Different comp plans are better suited to different personality types. Type in "4 personality types" in your favorite search for more info on what you are and the comp plan that best allows your success.

7. Now that you know what activities pay you, suck out those that don't and spend a higher percentage of your time on those that do. Successful people I have seen spend 80-90% of their WORKING time (play is also important) on money retrieving activity.

8. Know that setbacks will come. The universe will send you tests and challenges. Weather them, stay in the game and focused on your goals, and ride them out.

9. Review and revise along the way. Go to the end of your goals and work backward to figure out what must happen to achieve them. At the end of each month look at what happened and adjust your actions if you are not achieving your written goals.

10. Enjoy the journey and commit to learning along the way. That is what being a leader is all about. Lead from the front and by example and have fun while doing it. You will meet great people along the way so combine high tech with high touch.

These are the main things experience has taught me. You must have some kind of marketing system that generates leads for you. The big boys in the industry use the internet so do what they do.

Remember, you are building your cash flow long-term so don't think it's a sprint. Resolve to have a marathoner's spirit.

The greatest thing about home businesses is that you put out tremendous effort today and the rewards come back to you over and over and over again. There are some scams but the industry is strong and if you ever want financial independence this is the cheapest, best, easiest way to do it.

Luckily for me, my husband saw that I don't just talk about something that I intend to do, I do it - - so he's since changed his tune; especially now that I make as much from my home businesses as I did from my prior job, and we don't pay child care. Ha!

Anyway, it's been over 2 years since all that mess transpired, and I've seen and heard just about every story imaginable on the subject of home business start-ups/failures. I've also learned that most spouses, family members and 'friends' react in such damaging ways out of either fear or ignorance. I suppose some are just plain mean, but well, that's another issue we'll leave for Dr. Phil or Oprah.

For lucky business builders who have encouraging families, the work at home life is good, very good. My 14 year old daughter is my part-time Assistant, and her small salary is tax deductible too, so there's another plus in starting a business.

Creating a better future for the family is probably the most recurring 'Why' that I hear from new business owners. With such a strong reason driving the decision to work from home, then why shouldn't the entire family be involved? It's for them after all.

Find a way that even the littlest member can take part in the family business. Remember too that helping with chores, running errands, baby-sitting for younger sibs, taking turns with dinner etc. are all just as important as being able to do home office work, if not 'more' important in the long run.

If you're currently suffering with a spouse or partner who just doesn't 'get' what you're doing - please don't give up. Keep on building and trying and help them 'get' it through concrete results. Usually, with some home businesses, positive results that a 'non-biz' type can wrap their minds around, does take time. Unfortunately cash talks, however, and they may not take you seriously until you can show them your first check; and with persistence and consistency - - You will.

If you read what every blog declares and what every random Joe says that has a web page, the answer is "Yes". The truth is, though, that a majority of the Survey/Offer websites are actually quite legit. Some might take months to pay you and some might not have a high approval rate, but out of the 40 or so "Pay Per Offer", "Paid Survey", or "trial offer" type site that I have signed up with over the past 2 years, I have been paid by 35 of them. Now, that is a far cry from the 99% mark that you have probably seen all over the internet.
The question you should be asking yourself, instead of "Which is a scam?", is "Which ones are easy and will pay me the fastest?".
100% of the Paid Survey sites that I have joined over the years are absolutely free to join. You should never have to pay a fee to access any of the surveys. Never. The sites that make you pay a fee to join just give you information that you could have gotten by yourself, for free. There are a few different types of survey sites out there, and I will explain each one very briefly.
The first type of Paid Survey site is the kind that actually sends you emails about new products, cars, shaving cream, cola, etc. They actually pay you money, usually $1 to $10, for you to give your opinion on different products. I must admit, some of these are very fun. A few of the companies will even send you the product in the mail and PAY you to try it out for a week. I have gotten to try many products, including Cheez-its, Gilette shaving gel, and a new kind of Colgate toothpaste. Each paid me about ten bucks simply for trying each one out.
The second tyope of Paid Survey site is really not a "Paid Survey" site at all. There is nothing wrong with that, though. They call themselves that just to drive traffic to their site, but once you get in, is is more of a "Ad Viewing" site. These sites pay you anywhere from $.50 to $3.00 for entering things such as your email address to different companies. It might not sound like much money, but it can add up very quickly as I have found out. These type of Survey sites also pay you to sign up for free trials, or other low cost trials. For example, you would click their affiliate link to Blockbuster which states, "Sign up for Blockbuster's 30 day, $9.99 trial and we will pay you $16.00". When you complete that offer, you just made yourself $6 in about a minutes time. You can cancel before the 30 day trial ends and you still get to keep the $16. This type of offer is where the real money is made concerning this type of Paid Survey site.
There are also Paid Survey websites that try to sell you a database of paid surveys. They try to lure you to purchase their "program" or whatever they call it with sales letters about how they make thousands monthly or even weekly. While I can not say that these letters are dishonest I can say that I have never heard of anybody who makes their full time income taking paid surveys outside of these types of websites. Again, you should NEVER have to pay when signing up to a Survey site. Also, you should know which sites are the best to join, because of things like quick payouts and an active forum.

I have noticed that a lot of authors are submitting articles for the wrong reasons. Authors are submitting 'half baked' articles fueled by a 'PageRank' and 'BackLink' craze, something I find very fruitless. Like in link exchange, the search engines have wisened up and are getting better at weeding out 'spam'.
It's imperative that you submit 'quality' articles. A badly written article may generate you that 'backlink' that you so much desire, but the real purpose of submitting your article to an article marketing directory is to gain publishers who will willingly publish your articles on their websites, blogs and newsletters; that's where the real traffic comes from. Publishers should 'want' to publish your article, hence the importance of good writing.
Submitting numerous short (less than 500 words), poorly and haphazardly written articles will do you no good. Also submitting the same article over and over with a few modifications is not acceptable; it's duplicate content and defeats the purpose of a directory. An author needs to sit back, choose a good topic and come up with a article that is an effective marketing tool, an article that captivates the reader and makes him or her want to publish it, print and/or forward it to their friends.
Anything less is essentially a waste of time!
How many times have you seen a website with thousands of backlinks but with no 'PageRank' or worse still does not feature in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) at all. Too many, I must say. Too many article directories contain tons of 'garbage',...if 'numbers' is the game, then why do some of these directories with tens of thousands of articles have very low PageRank or in numerous instances none at all?
Quality rules!
As an author, your number one priority when writing an article is 'quality and uniqueness'. You must write powerfully and with purpose. Your writing must be attractive and persuasive, otherwise it's not worth the trouble.
My suggestion: Write a few 'very good articles' and submit them to carefully selected article directories. Make sure it's a well written and useful article....something site owners will want to publish in their blog, website or ezine.
As I post post my own articles to directories, I always find myself refining the article. This may or may not have any direct benefit but I strongly believe it's part and parcel of the quality control process.
Personally, I don't worry about PageRank or BackLinks, I also do not force feed my directory and I read each and every article that is submitted to the directory.
Write good articles and let it come to you naturally....the search engines will reward you as bloggers and webmasters post your articles on their sites, something they will only do if your writing is stimulating and relevant.
Look at your article as 'Your Product' or 'Your Service'. A service or product that is not 'choreographed' properly will almost always be rejected. If you are having trouble writing, make time and study what the topnotch writers are doing. The Internet is 'pregnant' with excellent writers.
As an owner of an Article Directory, I demand from my authors that they make a serious attempt at writing quality articles. For example, I now do not accept anything less than 500 words in length...debatable yes, but shorter articles are usually badly written.
In summary, here are a few salient points to note:
1. Plan, be clear, be original, structured, substantive and interesting.
2. Your writing must be grammatically and syntactically correct. Spelling mistakes are a no-no! Proof read your articles.
3. Your article(s) should be at least 500 words long.
4. There are plenty of writing samples and guides all over the internet. Look for them and use them. Visit article directories and read the articles within. Nobody is asking you to re-invent the 'writing wheel', but it's of utmost importance that you keep abreast with what the top authors are doing.
5. Get feedback from your friends and colleagues. Two or more heads have always been better than one.
6. Write on topics that mean something to you - passion breeds excellence.
7. Finally if writing is too laborious for you, hire a Ghost Writer and let him/her express your thoughts for you.
Article marketing should be a win-win situation for directory owners and authors, therefore responsible directory owners should guide their authors and help them improve their writing; such as digging up information for them and emailing it to them in the form of a weekly newsletter, a blog or a forum.
Additionally, directory owners should engage their authors in meaningful discussions on article and general marketing, as it is part and parcel of the cut throat Internet Marketing Game, a science that must be taken seriously.

I am one of those people who have a go go life. And I am not too interested in fixing things unless it is affecting me. With that mentality is how I used to handle my computer; As long as the thing ran I was happy.

But the problem arose when in my go go life my computer was starting to slow me down. Which I think is one of the most frustrating things in life, when you are trying to go to some website and you just sit there waiting for it to pop up. You get up, go to the bathroom or take care of something, and come back. And there it is… a blank screen.
Now many things can cause this, but in my case it was Malware.

Malware is (malicious software) and is any program created with the purpose of causing damage to a computer system or endangering the security of a computer system. These can include viruses, worms, trojans, spyware and adware.

Viruses and worms will replicate themselves and pass from one carrier to another. They can spread on their own or after the user takes some action, like opening e-mail, running a program, etc.

Trojans get their name from the famous historical Trojan horse. Trojans can get onto your system and hide there by appearing as something else. It appears to be harmless, but contains a little something extra that the user isn't expecting, yet it can end up deleting everything on your hard drive, or it might install or change a program.

Spyware and adware (which this article is about) will work in such a way that when you download a free picture, or wallpaper, music, movie, etc., at the same time you will be installing a program that monitors your key strokes and sends that information back to a third party via the Internet.

Spyware and adware are horrible things and are probably the worst offenders of Malware.
In today's world where the Internet is so big, nasty people are finding more and more clever ways to steal your identity and in general MONEY.

Now adware, like spyware, will slow your computer down and will keep redirecting you to other sites and you will receive loads of pop-ups.

The most common ways that spyware gets into your computer is as follows:
1. By free software like screensavers or P2P file sharing programs which you download, such as Kazaa. It installs adware onto your computer even though it claims to contain "no spyware." Another one is Screensaver.com.
2. Opening e-mail attachments that are spam.
3. Opening pop ups
4. When the website that you are visiting automatically downloads the spyware.

Sites to be careful on, especially if you want to ignore this article, are sites such as:
1. Gaming sites
2. Music downloads
3. Adult sites
4. Celebrity sites
5. Screensaver and wallpaper sites.

Hopefully I have gotten this article out in time to those people who are like me and are just content to do nothing about protecting themselves until is too late. If it is too late and you think that you are already affected, then there are solutions that I will explain.

First, you delete everything on your hard drive. You will loose any data that wasn't backed up. It is very time consuming but will work quite well.

Second, you restore your operating system and all of your software. After that, restore any files that you had backed up. You may want a professional with specific skills to do that.

Third, if you aren't too badly affected, try some free trial spyware removal programs and they will tell you what you have on your computer relating to spyware.

There are some free adware sites but you have to be VERY careful of those because a lot of them are bogus and will end up giving you spyware. They will delete the competitors but will add theirs to your computer instead.

Here are two pretty good free ones that you can look into.

1. Adware 6.0 - this one will get you daily updates, easy to use interface, and fast scanning to delete the most common spyware and adware on your computer.
2. Spybot Search and Destroy. - This has an immunizer built in it, and it will automatically work with your Internet browser, not allowing you to go to known bad sites that give you viruses. It also allows you free daily updates so you can be protected against the most common spyware/adware.

Just remember that people will go through great lengths to infect your computer and hide it from the average user so they won't be able to find it and remove it.

But don't feel defenseless. I am here to tell you how to get software that will totally clear up all your problems. One suggestion is to do a little research on your own. Find out more about this enemy of yours so you can feel totally comfortable with the product that you get to remove the spyware and adware from your computer.

When getting spyware removal software, you will want the most up-to-date version on the market. Big name companies will usually always be safe sites to visit.
I also recommend that you get the spyware removal that offers you a free scan of your computer which will produce a report of the spyware or adware currently infecting your computer.

The downfall of these compared to their paid counterparts is that they don't come with as many features. You have to constantly remember to download up dates. And as mentioned before free programs tend to be more likely to be a hoax.

Good. There are only two simple things you've got to do…

1. Create an "I've gotta take a closer look" opening sentence. Did you notice the opening sentence of this lesson? What happened? I got your attention.

Here's why. I got your attention firstly because I made you a promise that appeals to you. You want folks to hang on your every word as they read your emails. How do I know you want this? If you've already read the title and started reading the article, so
I know what you're interested in. I pushed a button that I know will get your attention. Nothing fancy or magical. I just tapped into something that you already have a desire for.

And, secondly, it got your attention because that promise hinges on YOU. Now, you're INVOLVED. You're involved because I've already told you that it's up to you. You control the outcome here. It's not based on a roll of the dice or the luck of the draw… Results are up to YOU getting this lesson right.

First things first, you want to get their attention immediately. Use that first sentence wisely. Fire your big guns. It is THE MOST POWERFUL and INFLUENTIAL part of your entire email message. If it doesn't produce results, folks just won't read any further. Let them know from the get go that something important is awaiting them in the email.

Give them a reason to read on. And then…

2. Create short paragraphs that continue to lead the reader along. In the opening sentence I gave you something to get your attention. I focused you in on a result, an outcome, something you can control.

A: Hi Mary, The first thing you need to do is close your eyes, take a deep breath and let it out slowly.

(repeat as necessary :o).

First, let me say that I understand your frustration, but it has been my experience that most people in your situation (including yours truly when I was first starting out) create much of their own frustration because they put themselves under too much pressure to succeed quickly. Their situation is not a happy one and they want to change it TODAY. When that doesn't happen, frustration and anger can set in.

Everyone wants to hit home runs the first time at bat. They want big money and they want it fast. When results don't come as quickly as they think they should, they say, "This Internet thing doesn't work and those who claim to make money are scammers!"

I have been an Internet marketer for 3 years now. The first year I did miserably. I lost about $5,000 trying to figure it all out on my own. One day it occurred to me that succeeding would be much easier if I knew what the heck I was doing.

You see, I, like so many others, didn't take the time to educate myself on Internet marketing. I saw others making money online and figured if they could do it, I could, too.

I just found the crowded pool and dove in head first. As you expect, I almost drowned because I had not taken the time to learn how to swim. Heck, I couldn't even float...

So I stopped what I was doing and became a student instead of a practitioner. I discovered that I was making every mistake in the book because I had not taken the time to learn what to do, and more importantly, what not to do.

After losing a ton of cash, time, and sleep, it finally started to make sense.

I remember finally making $100 profit from eBay in one week for sales of my own ebook (CD Money Machine).

I had made hundreds of thousands of dollars in other ventures, but that $100 was the hardest money I had ever made. That's why it meant so much to me. It told me that FINALLY I was doing something right.

I took that $100 and plowed it into more auction listings and just kept repeating the process.

Then I moved beyond eBay to my own website.

Then I started to concentrate on developing more products, creating my own affiliate program, pursuing more joint ventures, expanding my marketing campaigns.

Success came to me, BUT ONLY AFTER I stopped doing everything wrong and learned to do a few things right.

Like so many people before me and like so many of you now reading these words, I wasted a year of my life and thousands of dollars because I did not take the time to learn first, then do.

I had unrealistic expectations of myself and the business. I expected big bucks and fast results and when they did not come, I looked for someone other than myself to blame.

It took me taking a step back and reassessing my entire thinking to finally learn how to succeed.

And I succeeded in baby steps, not giant leaps.

There were no home runs.

There were a lot of foul balls and finally base hits.

That's how you succeed.

Here's the bottomline:

There is no such thing as a real get-rich-quick opportunity. If someone tells you that you can start with no money and no experience and make hundreds of thousands of dollars overnight they are lying to you and you are a fool for believing them. Yes, you can make lots of money in a short period of time as an Internet marketer, but you're not going to get rich this week unless you hit the lottery or your rich uncle dies. And you have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than either of those things happening. Be realistic, be smart, be logical. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. An Internet business is no different from a brick and mortar business: both take hard work, dedication, perseverance, and an investment of time and money. Just because your business is "virtual" that does not mean that you don't have to put some time and effort into launching, building, and running it. Yes, there are many things you can do to automate the process, but you have to build the business before expecting it to run on autopilot. You must have patience, realistic expectations, and the ability to keep plugging along even if you are not getting the results you expected at first. The problem with we humans is that we are an impatient species. We expect our grand ideas to play out quickly and effortlessly. We expect things to happen at lightspeed. We are a microwave society: nothing happens fast enough for us. In business, nothing happens quickly. Until you understand that, you will drive yourself to failure every time. You will start ventures and quickly abandon them. You will grow frustrated and you will fail. This is the biggest lesson you can learn here, so read this several times and ask yourself: Is he talking to me? When someone is unhappy with their current situation they are prone to desperation, which leads to unrealistic expectations, which leads to failure, which leads to anger, which leads to a dead end.

I know because I hear from them all the time. I receive emails like:

"Tim I'm broke and in debt and if I don't make $1,000 by Friday they will take my house! Tell me what to do! You are my last hope..."

And...

"Tim, if you don't tell me how to make $500 today my wife is going to leave me. You have to save my marriage..."

These are not made up statements. I am not trying to be funny.

These are actual quotes from emails I've received.And I receive hundreds like this every month.

There is nothing I can say to these people (other than "I'll mail you a check") that will make them feel better about themselves and their situation.

When I reply with the truth, that I am not their salvation and they need to study and work a plan of action, often these same people reply with hate mail.

If I don't tell them what they expect to hear or offer to solve their problems I am the villain. I become the target of their venting. And that's fine. They have to blame someone if they aren't willing to take responsibility for their own lives.

The difference between you and these people, Mary, is you are really trying.

You're learning and practicing and testing and TAKING ACTION.

That puts you in the 1% of people who actually have a chance to make it.

You tell me the things you've done, but you don't tell me anything about your results.

Large success is built upon a foundation of many small successes.

Have you taken the time to actually learn about Internet marketing, affiliate programs, pay per click, etc.?

It's one thing to signup with a bunch of affiliate programs. It is another thing entirely to know what you should do after you sign up.

Education is the first step.

I'll say it again: you must learn to swim before diving in the big pond or you will drown.

No one is going to throw you a life jacket.

It's sad, but it is entirely true; you are on your own.

Here is my best advice for you: Stop trying to make money until you learn all you can about the Internet marketing industry.

Read books, study the successful marketers, do a Google search for 'Internet marketing forums' and spend time reading what others have posted. You will find people in those forums who have been there, done that. Post questions, ask for advice, join the community. You will find kindred spirits and people more than happy to help you learn and grow.

Finally, if technical ability was a prerequisite for Internet success 99% of the so called big dogs (this pup included) would be back working day jobs.

The key to Internet success is not technical, it is mental.

You can hire someone to write an ebook or hack together programming code for you, but you can't hire someone to do your thinking for you.

Success is about having a plan of action and working it through to the end.

It is about learning to effectively market your products.

10. Forgetting to check for missing web page elements.

4. Writing articles.

There are two very important reasons for this: (1) it is extremely targeted, and (2) It is FREE! The hard part is getting top ranking for your sites keywords... or is it? The purpose of this article is to provide a few simple, effective, and most important, search engine friendly strategies to help boost your websites' ranking and ultimately your traffic.

1. We will start with the Meta Tags. I know you have already heard of, and are probably currently using meta tags on your site. This is great. I just want to make sure you are using them effectively. We will only go over 2 tags: the "title" tag, and the "description" tag. We will not go over the "keywords" tag, as the major search engines have placed less and less weight on this one, and some would argue this tag has no weight at all. I still use this tag however, as I feel there is some merit and no drawbacks to using this tag.

I have found it effective to use similar text in the "title" and "description" tags, and to place your keywords prominently in these tags (near the beginning and more than once). I have seen sites with "sitename.com", "New Page 1", or "Welcome to my site" in the "title" tag, which really does not help in their quest for higher rankings for their particular keyword. Also, try not to use words such as "and", "or", or "the" in these tags.

**Important note about your keywords. Search engines evaluate keyword prominence, keyword weight, and keyword density when determining a site's ranking. All three are calculated individually for the page, the title tag, the description tag, as well as other areas on a page. Keyword prominence means how close the keyword is to the beginning of your page. Keyword weight refers to how many times a particular keyword or phrase can be found on the page. Keyword density is the ratio of the keyword to the other words on the page. You do not want the keyword weight or density to be too high, as this can appear to the search engine as "keyword stuffing" and most search engines penalize sites that stuff their keywords.

2. Place your navigational links (and JavaScript) at the right or at the bottom, but not on the left, of the page. When the search engines "read" your site, they read from the top left to the bottom right. Search engines place an emphasis on the first 100 words or text on the site. You do not want these words to be navigational links or Javascript. Ideally, you want to have your heading tags with your keywords in the beginning of your page. This being said, placing your links/JavaScript on the right or bottom of your page ensures the search engine spiders get to the text first, giving more weight to what's important on your page.

3. Place alt tags on all of your images. Search engine spiders cannot "read" pictures or images. The only way a spider knows what an image is about is by reading the alt tag. This is also another chance to place more of your keywords in your HTML, improving your page's keyword weight/density. Alt tags are easy to make and they can make a big difference in your sites keyword ranking. A simple alt tag looks like this: alt="put your keyword phrase here." Search engines separately calculate keyword prominence, density, and weight in alt tags as well, so optimize your tags.

4. Place your keywords at the bottom of your page. Just as search engines place more weight on the first words of your page, they also do the same to the last words. The general thinking is this, if your site is about a certain subject, then the main points, or keywords, should, appear at the beginning, be spread throughout the page, and be prominent at the conclusion. But if you have all of your navigational links and JavaScript at the bottom, your relevant page text could end well before the HTML does. An easy way to have your keywords at the bottom of your page is to include them in the copyright information. For example, if you have a dog food website, you could have something like this at the very bottom of the page:

5. The Anchor Text of your links. Anchor text is the actual linking text on a site. It is what the user clicks on to navigate to that particular site or page. This is overlooked quite often, but it seems to have a very large impact on your search engine rankings for a particular keyword. Your anchor text needs to be the keyword or phrase you are trying to target. Try to avoid anchor text such as "Click Here" or "yoursite.com"

Also, if you're running a reciprocal link campaign, be sure to use variations of your text. If an engine notices every link to your site is identical, it could place less weight on these links or potentially penalize your site. This is because search engines generally give more weight to "naturally occurring" links, and less to "reciprocal link exchange campaigns". Using different, but relevant anchor text can dramatically affect your targeted keyword rankings, by making your links appear more natural.

Well, by now you most likely have heard that good design, proper key word density, intuitive navigation, correct Meta tags, quality incoming links and informative content are all important to achieving top search engine placement. Which site do you think would generate more search engine hits: or if you have great name recognition in your local neighborhood, a potential client seeking a San Diego attorney will most definitely find the first site before the second. Result: Incorporating key words into your URL will increase your chances of being found in a key word search.

As web site owner, you or your assistant should know how to up-date your site by adding current content, or minor changes. Updating should be done often to keep your site relevant. 4. Read a book on Search engine optimization.

In many cases, if they try optimization at all, they are using techniques that are way dated and in many cases could and have caused sites to actually rank well below their true potential or be desisted because of what is perceived as search engine mutilation.

Step 1: Keyword Research
What keywords do you think your customers would type in to search for your products or services? A keyword can be one word (e.g. "optimisation"), but multiple keywords or keyword phrases are usually preferred, because they are more specific and more likely to be what your customers are looking for

Write down as many as you can think of. Brainstorm with your team. Think of alternative words. Consider geographical phrases if they are important to your customer (e.g. "house cleaning Hornsby"). Also, get some ideas from your competitors' websites. Try to make a list of 20-30 keyword phrases.

Choose the two keyword phrases you think would be searched for the most. But also remember, the more competition there is for a keyword, the harder it is to achieve top rankings. If you want to rank high in Google for the keyword "insurance", you have a very long journey ahead. So try your best to select two keyword phrases that are the most relevant to you business but that are not vague nor competitive. It's a good idea to have 2 or 3 words in each phrase (e.g. "wedding catering services")

Once you've selected your two best keyword phrases the next step shows you how to make some improvements to your home page.

Step 2: Web Copy
Web copy refers to all the words or text on your website. Because content is king in the world of search engines, your keyword phrases need to be placed strategically on your webpage to convince Google that your content is highly relevant to those keywords. The more prominent they are, the better. (Keep in mind that as important as search engines are, customers come first, so make sure your copy also reads well.)

Here's how you can increase each keyword's prominence:

• Place your keywords in headings, preferably at the beginning of the heading;

• Include keywords towards the top of the page;

• Bold or italicise keywords where appropriate;

• Instead of having a link to another page that says "Click here to read more ", reword it to include your keywords, e.g. "Read more about our

An important tip is to also include these keywords in your HTML "title tag". Use your content management system to make these changes yourself, or perhaps ask your web developer to do it if you're unsure how.

Once you have fine-tuned your home page, consider adding new content, such as detailed descriptions of what you offer, FAQs and informative articles about your products and services. (If you don't want to write these yourself, they can be located for free on the internet - do a search for "articles directory").

It's also good to bear in mind that search engines can only read text, not pictures. Often web developers embed words in images to look better for website visitors or use Flash for animation, but this is a major impediment to search engines.

<b>Step 3: Linking</b>
Each link from another website to your website (not from your website) is considered by search engines as a vote of popularity for your business and will improve your rankings.

But it is the quality, not quantity, of the links that is crucial. The other websites should be relevant to your industry, and preferably highly regarded themselves. Ten quality links count far more than 500 links from arbitrary websites. In the same way your personal business network can have a significant impact on the success of your business, so too the online network you build on the internet.

Brainstorm all the relevant websites that could link to you, such as non-competing companies, and industry bodies and organisations. Write a friendly email to each describing the benefit their visitors would get in knowing about your business, and request them to create a link to your website. Most people will not respond first time round, so a follow-up phone call is usually required.

How do I monitor my results?
Monitor your rankings in Google over the next few months by typing your chosen keywords into the search box, and recording your ranking. Also look at your hosting reports to understand what search terms your visitors are using to find your website.

The above process can be also be repeated for each page of your website. Remember to keep updating your content, and continually increase the number of links to your website.

As you see your rankings climb you should see a corresponding increase in web traffic and a substantial increase in sales enquiries. Be sure to record the source of your customer enquiries, so you can measure the success of your marketing efforts.
